In 2013 the Carthage Fire Department lowered its ISO rating in the district from a 9 to a 6. This affords the residents within six miles of the fire station lower insurance cost. Criteria used to determine the rating include water supply, training, equipment and manpower. The Fire Department strives to improve its rating with new technology in firefighting, education, and equipment upgrades.
