Many of those buried in the 1880's were on what is now railway property (the South Coast Line was duplicated) so their graves have been moved. Their headstones are fixed to a brick wall or added to existing plots which are neatly set out in squares in the cemetery. Headstones of sandstone are very difficult to read whereas those of marble & granite have stood up to the elements far better.

In 2010 there were 479 inscriptions. The only burials that take place in the cemetery now are the deceased ashes added to an extensive columbarium.
