The history of the mission of St Ann's to the Cowichan Valley is told in the waymarks for the old churches in the valley below, St Ann's Quaimichan in WM699F and the Old Stone Butter Church WM699H. The tradition of climbing up about 350 m (1150 ft) to the White Cross through the stations of the cross on Good Friday is continued to this day.
The original wooden cross visible from St Ann's Church was destroyed by age and vandals but has been replaced with a sturdy steel replica in the 1990's. It remains an icon.
We took the easy route up from the Kingsview subdivision and the Mt Tzouhalem Ecological Reserve and back on the old logging roads. See (
