Surrounding plaques honor the branches of the U S military services.
This monument was dedicated Nov. 11, 1998 and is surrounded by veterans and seven granite benches. The installation was supported by VFW groups throughout the large county.
Golden Gate National cemetery south of San Francisco had been closed to new burials, the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at Dixon had not yet been opened, San Joaquin Valley National was too far.
