This stone monument was built to commemorate the Lincoln Tercentenary, a celebration held in 1937 of the Lincoln family having been in this country 300 years. The first ancestor to arrive was Samuel Lincoln, who landed in Boston on June 20, 1637. The celebration also commemorated the passage of Abraham Lincoln's family through the Cumberland Gap in 1780 to settle in Kentucky.
