Lípa malolistá je statný opadavý listnatý strom s košatou, vysoko klenutou korunou, který dorustá 30 a více metru. Statný kmen je pokryt tenkou, tmavou a melce podélne zvrásnelou kurou. Pupeny jsou cernohnedé, vejcovité. Listy jsou dlouze rapíkaté, nesoumerne srdcité a lysé, pouze v úhlech velkých žilek na spodní strane listu mají rezavé chomácky chlupu (na rozdíl od lípy velkolisté, která je má belavé). Kvete od cervna do cervence. Kvety jsou oboupohlavné, žlutave bílé, stopka vrcholíku je témer do poloviny srostlá s jazykovým blanitým listenem. V dobe kvetu omamne voní. Plod je jednopouzdrý kulovitý oríšek s tenkostenným oplodím. Bežne se kríží s lípou velkolistou (výše uvedený rozpoznávací znak slouží pouze k rozlišení cistých jedincu, existenci krížencu nezohlednuje). Kríženec se nazývá lípa obecná (Tilia x vulgaris). Ve volné prírode je celkem vzácný, casto je však vysazován ve mestech a parcích.

Small-leaved lime is a robust deciduous broad-leaved tree with a spreading, high arched crown which grows to 30 meters and more. Robust trunk is covered with a thin, dark and shallow longitudinally wrinkled bark. The buds are black-brown, egg-shaped. Leaves are long petioles, heart-shaped and asymmetrically glabrous, only angles major veins on the underside of the leaves have rusty hairs (unlike leaved lime, which has a whitish). It blooms from June to July. The flowers are bisexual, yellowish-white, stem cyme is almost half conjoined with language membranous bract. At the time of flowering intoxicating smells. The fruit is a nut with a spherical unilocular thin-walled pericarp. Normally it crosses large-leaved linden (cited character recognition only serves to distinguish pure men, ignores the existence of hybrids). Mongrel called linden general (Tilia x vulgaris). In the wild, it is quite rare, but it is often planted in cities and parks.
