St. Matthews Catholic Church was designed by the well-known Bathurst architect Edward Gell (1818 - 1899). It is built from local stone in a modified Gothic style with narrow lancet windows. New windows were installed in 2007. There are two grave sites in the grounds as well as unmarked graves.
The church is not listed as a heritage building on the NSW State government's heritage website however its year of construction is given on the website Rydal Village under Places of Interest.
It relies on the Portland parish for Mass & only has four regular services a year but can be booked for weddings, baptisms etc.
