A sculpture of a palmetto tree is the central motif of the Memorial to the Sons of the Palmetto Regiment of the War with Mexico. It is located on the grounds of the State Capitol in Columbia, SC.

A 25' high by 5' square painted, iron, palmetto tree was sculpted by Christopher Werner to honor the men of the South Carolina Palmetto Regiment who fought in the Mexican War. The trunk of the tree is colored bronze and the leaves are bright green.

The front of the base is inscribed:

HER SONS
OF THE

WHO FELL
IN THE
WAR WITH MEXICO
ANNO DOMINO
1847

The other three sides contain plaques which list the names of soldiers of the Palmetto Regiment who were killed in the Mexican War.
