This wall box was made by WT Allen and co who used many foundries at first. The initial gape of the aperture was widened in 1960s by a contractor with a portable angle grinder and a new aperture bolted on.

In 1950s, Scottish nationalists realised Queen Elizabeth was the first queen of Scotland called Elizabeth. Hence only the Crown is shown now on Scottish post boxes. Not a problem with VR boxes.
