De Getswerdersyl was de noordelijkste sluis in de Slachtedijk in de Nederlandse provincie Friesland.

De sluis (zijl of syl genoemd) in de Slachtedijk dankt zijn naam aan het vroegere gehucht Gaetswerd. Door de sluis werd water uit Oostergo afgevoerd naar de Waddenzee bij Roptazijl. Oorspronkelijk was de sluis particulier bezit van de familie Liauckama, de bewoners van de bij Sexbierum gelegen Liauckamastate. In de Middeleeuwen bouwde deze familie een omvangrijk grondbezit op in Noordwest Friesland. Na 1600 stierf de familie geleidelijk uit en maakte het onderhoud van de Getswerdersyl deel uit van de erfenis waarvan de erfgenamen meer belang hadden bij de lusten dan bij de lasten. Dit is het onderhoud van de zijl niet ten goede gekomen.

Vanaf de 17e eeuw raakte de sluis in verval. Dit vormde voor de provincie Friesland de reden om de sluis in 1841 over te nemen. Er is toen een brug met drie stroomgaten aangelegd. Hierin waren gedenkstenen gemetseld ter herinnering aan deze overname. In 1841 werd de sluis geheel vernieuwd en vergroot. Het was de enige sluis in de Slachte met deuren, waarmee de sluis geopend en gesloten kon worden. Rond 1900 is de houten brug vervangen door een betonnen constructie. In 1982 werd de sluis gesloopt. Op de plaats van de sluis is in 1990 een herdenkingsmonument opgericht, waarin de oorspronkelijke gedenkstenen uit 1841 zijn verwerkt.

The Getswerdersyl was the northernmost lock in the Slachtedijk in the Dutch province of Friesland.

The lock (called zijl or syl) in Slachtedijk owes its name to the former hamlet Gaetswerd. The water was taken from the Oostergo to the Wadden Sea near Roptazijl. Originally, the lock was privately owned by the Liauckama family, residents of the Liauckamastate at Sexbierum. In the Middle Ages the family owned large pieces of land in Northern Friesland. After 1600, the family gradually died out and made the maintenance of the Getswerdersyl part of the heritage of which the heirs had more interest in the benefits than burdens.

From the 17th century the lock fell into disrepair. For this reason the province of Friesland took over the lock in 1841. A bridge with three current holes was built. Memorial stones in memory of this acquisition were built in. In 1841 the lock was completely renovated and enlarged. It was the only lock in the Slachte with doors which open the lock and could be closed. Around 1900 the wooden bridge was replaced by a concrete structure. In 1982, the lock was demolished. On the site of the lock a memorial has been set up in 1990, with the original memorial stones from 1841 incorporated in it.
