A plaque on the corner of Wide Street and Dovecote Street, opposite the old Co-op, Hathern.
The plaque reads:
"Wide Street Industrial Area.
The Hathern Industrial Co-operative Society store on the corner of Tanners Lane operated between 1878 and 1976. The Co-op built the adjacent Bakehouse and Unity Cottages opposite, and also ran a butchers shop at number 46 from 1904.
Tanners Lane leads to the former May Farm House that was built around 1800. Old Forge Close marks the site of a former smithy.
Farther up the street is the ancient Stone House. It was endowed by Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, and the first records are from 1502. It was probably built as a hunting lodge brfore becoming a farmhouse."
