The festivals initial year was 2006 & Marie Bashir, the Governor of New South Wales officially opened the festival & commemorated the naming of Rydal in 1843. The plaque is attached to a large block of granite & is located in Greg Featherstone Park.
Dame Marie Roslyn Bashir AD, CVO is the former and second longest-serving Governor of New South Wales. Born in Narrandera, educated at the University of Sydney she held various medical positions. She was appointed the Governor of New South Wales 0n 1 March 2001 & held the position until retiring 1 October 2014.

This plaque was unveiled by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO Governor of New South Wales on 5 September 2006. On the occasion of the official opening of 'Daffodils at Rydal' And in commemoration of the naming of Rydal on 31 May 1843 by Lieutenant - General Sir George Gipps Governor of New South Wales (1838 - 1846)
