On page 62 of "Tintin in America," we see Tintin and Snowy taking a last look at the United States (the Empire State Building and Manhattan skyline) from the deck of the ocean liner that will take them back home to Europe -- just when they were getting used to being in America :)
The name of the ship that Tintin and his faithful dog Snowy board in New York City to return to Europe is not stated, but the design of the ship and the three tell-tale red-banded smokestacks give away her identity as The RMS Queen Mary. Her sister liner The RMS Queen Elizabeth only had two stacks. Source: (

The RMS Queen Mary sailed between Southampton England and New York City from 1936-1967. In 1967 she sailed to Long Beach CA to permanently anchor (no pun) a harborfront entertainment and hotel venture. Today (2016), the Queen Mary is still an elegant and interesting hotel and entertainment attraction at the Port of Long Beach. See: (

To log a visit to this waymark, you do not need to drop the $40 for the tour (although it is an AWESOME tour). Photos of the Queen Mary can be taken for free from any number of vantage points on the Port of Long Beach side or from across the harbor in the City of Long Beach.
