"The factories were expanding west-ward from Downtown Binghamton into Lestershire, (renamed Johnson City) and soon Eastern European immigrants were arriving making the need that much greater...St. James has only grown to be more ethnically, socio-economically and culturally diverse; continuing to serve immigrant communities by hosting the local liturgies"

"St. James Roman Catholic Church is a tan brick, Romanesque Revival church designed by T.I. Lacey. Four story bell towers flank the front facing gable of the cruciform building with rear apse. The roof is red tile. Large figurative stained glass arched windows are centered under each gable. The are Ionic columns supporting the arch in each opening of the bell towers. Between the columns are curved stone balustrades. Dentils and egg and dart moldings decorate the cornice. Medallions support the wide eaves. Doric columns are used at the entrances and the classical moldings are repeated along the entablature."
