There are numerous murals around the downtown area of Tahlequah, many of them with a Native American theme. This mural is painted on a brick wall at 201 S. Muskogee Avenue.

The mural is about a nine foot diameter circular depiction of Native American participation in the community. A stylized flag forms the background, with a young native American man on the left. Pictures of a policeman and fireman are included, as well as small silhouettes of an Indian woman and child.

Artist, Dana Tiger, is a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and is of Seminole and Cherokee descent. Her father was legendary artist Jerome Tiger. She was tutored by her uncle, renowned painter Johnny Tiger Jr.

Dana Tiger is best known for her watercolors and acrylic paintings depicting the strength and determination of Native American women. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame in 2001.
