Barceloneta beach is 422 metres long and is one of the oldest and most traditional in the city. It is a favourite amongst foreign visitors, and also youth groups and schools, who often use it for activities.
An arcade runs along the beach. It accommodates the Espai de Mar (Sea Space) centre, an environmental education facility designed to facilitate access to the beach and marine environment and promote environmental education in the seafront area through the inclusive practice of sport and leisure.
Barceloneta beach is easily reached on public transport: by Metro (Barceloneta Line L4); by bus (lines 10, 14, 16, 17, 36, 39, 40, 45, 51, 57, 59 and 64); and by tram (line T4, stopping at Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica). There are also three Bicing stations (Passeig Marítim de makes a bla Barceloneta, Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta / Andrea Dòria and Passeig Marítim 11, in front of Plaça Brugada).
Barcelona City Council does his best to keep the sand clean and the sea water clear with 90 people working daily in the summer on beach services. Barcelona's beaches are cleaned daily early in the morning and the water quality is tested and is generally very high.
We visited the Barceloneta beach on a very hot day in July 2015 and really enjoyed a long refreshing and relaxing dip in the Mediterranean sea.
