Plaça Nova is one of the largest and most modern looking squares in the Barri Gotic of Barcelona. However, it does date back to 1358, and is home to the Barcelona Cathedral one of the city's Gothic gems.

Plaça Nova is the place where Barcino, the old city, was born. These letters are sculptured in the square. This artwork by Joan Brossa stands just in front of Barcelona’s Roman wall, where the aqueduct once entered the city.
Two Romanesque towers flank the Bisbal gate. The square is also home to some nice cafes and bars and becomes a market with antique dealers every Thursday from 9h to 20h. Festivals and Sardanas are held here also.
Connected to Plaça Nova is Plaça de la Seu, which is a small square located at the foot of the cathedral's steps. It doesn't look like a separate square so you may be confused if specifically looking for it.
Across Plaça Nova, from the cathedral, you will see a building with large childlike-drawings on its façade. This is the Col.legi de Arquitectes, and the scribblings were done by none other than Picasso, in 1962.
