The reverse side of this Argentine commemorative silver 25 pesos coin depicts one of Buenos Aires historic landmarks and the most famous opera house in Latin America - Teatro Colon (Columbus Theatre).

Teatro Colon is bounded by the Cerrito Street, Libertad Street (the main entrance), Arturo Toscanini Street, and Tucumán Street in Buenos Aires downtown. The auditorium is horseshoe-shaped, has 2 487 seats, standing room for 1 000 and a stage which is 20 m wide, 15 m high and 20 m deep. The Colon's acoustics are considered to be so good as to place it in the top five performance venues in the world.

Teatro Colón was opened at the site of older theatre in 1908 with a performance of Verdi' "Aida". The launch of Colon Theater was during the wealthiest Argentine period when the constructions were prosperous in all Buenos Aires, and so was the cultural life for immigrants and residents. World famous artists like Enrico Carusso, Igor Stravinsky, Maria Callas, Arturo Toscanini, Maia Plisetskaia, Rudolf Nureyev, Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and local Julio Bocca, among other music or ballet representatives have been hosted by the Colon Theatre in their distinctive and successful performances. Colon Theater also offers many popular festivals and concerts at very low cost allowing people to enjoy their favorite bands and artists. Furthermore, there are very interesting spectacles for children, students, and the elderly audience on Sunday mornings.

The acoustic of the theatre is excellent, considered to be one of the best in the world, as well as the ballet company, philharmonic orchestra and choir. The Colon Theatre season runs from March to December. During summer time, many activities of the theatre are performed in open-air venues, such as parks, gardens or other government theatres, at very low prices for the general public.
