Arch Bridge 108 Over Leeds Liverpool Canal - Rishton, UK - Stone Bridges on Waymarking.com

The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.

This bridge is also known as Tottleworth Bridge and is a Historic England Grade II Listed Building with the following text. "Bridge over Leeds-Liverpool Canal c.1810 (Engineers Robert Whitworth and Joseph Priestley). Coursed sandstone. High elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs, bands, parapets (raised or altered) with copings and pilastered ends. Steps to towpath on south sides at east end. Large pipe piercing the abutments is arched across south side." link

The bridge was built as an accommodation bridge for a nearby farm.
