Dewsbury Country Park
The Dewsbury Country Park was opened in 2012 and was created on an old landfill site. The site has been grassed over and footpaths and cycle routes laid out, some of which have a hard surface.
In addition it is also being planted with a large number of trees to form the biggest new wood in the North of England. It is one of 60 Jubilee Woods being planted throughout the UK to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Dewsbury Country Park is 188 acres and the wood will take up 101 acres. As at 2013 39000 trees had been planted.
The Map
The map marks one of the access points to the Country Park at the end of Jill Lane. As well as traditional gates for walkers and cyclists, there is also one for horse riders. It has a low central section which horses can step over whilst it still blocks motor vehicles.
