A 1973 Texas Historical Marker in Lone Oak Cemetery indicates that the first burial here was that of a boy who died while passing through the area with his family in 1858. The cemetery is located just off of Kaufman County Rd 4027.

The historical marker provides the background:

In 1858 passing strangers lost a son by sudden death. Befriending them, Weaver A. Cotton (1822-96) provided gravesite at a tree near log school-church building. Later he gave community burial ground; deed was recorded 1883. Cotton and family and many other pioneers rest here.

There is no longer a tree or a building where the boy is buried. His grave is marked by a plain, modern gray granite headstone that says:
