Depicted memorial, devoted to one of the most prominent Czech airmen and heroes of both world wars, general Vilém Stanovský, is located in premises of former coal mine Hlubina in Ostrava' historic industrial complex Dolní oblast Vítkovice.
The small memorial, formed by granite block with mounted bronze memorial tablet, was cermonially unveiled by civil and military officials on October 1st, 2012.
The tablet bears following inscription in Czech:

Za úcast v odboji behem 2. sv. války veznen nacity.
Po unoru 1948 perzekuován a veznen komunisty.
Nositel francouzského Rytírského kríže a Stuhy komandéra
cestné legie, Cs. válecného kríže a dalších vojenských poct.
In memoriam vyznamenám Rádem bílého lva III.trídy a Cenou mesta Ostravy.

Czechoslovak legionnaire and French fighter pilot in WWI.
Cofounder of the Czechoslovak Air Force after 1918.
For participation in the resistance movement arrested by Nazis in WWII.
After coup d'etat in 1948 persecuted and arrested by communists.
Bearer of French Knight Cross, Orders of Legion of Honour 3rd, 4th and 5th Class,
Czechoslovak War Cross and many other military honours.
In memoriam honoured by the Order of the White Lion 3rd Class Military division and by Ostrava City Award.

Generál Vilém Stanovský, rodák z Ostravy (27. 3. 1896), vyrustal v hornické kolonii Dolu Hlubina. Vyucil se truhlárem a odešle na zkušenou „do sveta“. Jako dobrovolník se úcastnil za 1. svetové války boju na francouzské fronte v radách cs. roty Nazdar, po leteckém výcviku se stal stíhacem. Patril mezi zakladatele ceskoslovenského vojenského letectva, byl poradcem prezidenta Tomáše Garrigua Masaryka. Za nemecké okupace organizoval od brezna 1939 odbojovou skupinu Obrana národa, za což byl veznen a deportován do koncentracního tábora v Dachau. Po 2. svetové válce velel v hodnosti brigádního generála letecké brigáde v Praze. Po roce 1948 byl za svuj nekompromisní postoj k nástupu komunismu pronásledován StB, veznen a mucen. Plne rehabilitován byl až v roce 1972, dva mesíce poté 11. 7. v Praze zemrel. Pri vojenské prehlídce v roce 1967 v Paríži pronesl prezident Charles de Gaulle na adrese Viléma Stanovského památnou vetu: „Vím, kdo jste, generále, a vím, co jste vykonal.“
Generál Vilém Stanovský je nositelem techto vyznamenání a medailí: Rytírského kríže Cestné legie, Francouzské pametní medaile, Francouzského válecného kríže, Dustojnického kríže Cestné legie, Verdunské medaile, Stuhy komandéra Cestné legie, Francouzského válecného kríže 1939-1945 s palmovou ratolestí, Medaile Vielles tiges, Medaile de la Ville de Paris, Ceskoslovenského válecného kríže 1939, Ceskoslovenské revolucní medaile, Medaile vítezství, Ceskoslovenské medaile za chrabrost 1946, Ceskoslovenské medaile za zásluhy 1946, Rádem bílého lva III.trídy...
