The Santiago-de-Chile-Platz was created in 1971 by the Verschönerungsverein Stuttgart, at that time under the name Haigstanlage. In 2006, during a visit of the Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, this place was re-opened under the new name. The place can easily be reached with the Stadtbahn (stop: Weinsteige) or the Zahnradbahn (stop: Haigst), so you do not have to climb up the steep Stuttgart hills. However, there are some benches, so if you come up the hill by foot, you can take a rest here.
The table is located at an altitude of about 420 meters, so the city center is really lying at your feet (at an altitude of about 240 to 250 meters).
A specialty about this orientation table: the landmarks are not painted onto or engraved into the table but cut-out holes.
