"PETER3 BROAS (PIETER2 BRASS, JOHN1) was born October 22, 1762 in Oyseter Bay, Long Island. N.Y., and died February 23, 1859 in Union, Broome, N.Y...They dwelt for several years at Hempstead then moved to Fishkill, N.Y. near the highlands on the border of Putnam County nine miles from the Fishkill Landing. They moved then in 1809 to Paltz, N.Y. and from there in 1810 to Rochester, N.Y. where they dwelt till the spring of 1816, then moved to Union where they arrived 16 June 1816 and settled on lot 45 of the Nanticoke Township of Boston Purchase. On this farm they passed the rest of their lives in great comfort, always wearing the Quaker dress and practicing the Quaker principal of peace with all men. Their house and barn were shingled on the sides as well as the roof, with good pine shingles after the fasion then common in Eastern N.Y. and SW Connecticut, a fact that made their buildings as noticeable as their garb."
