L'installation d'une distillerie est décidée en janvier 1947 par la coopérative agricole des producteurs-herboristes, ceci afin d'écouler deux récoltes de menthe restées invendues. La vente d'huiles essentielles permet aux cultures de menthe de reprendre après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Le principe de l'alambic est le suivant : la cuve de distillation est remplie de menthe, fermée et boulonnée. Sous l'action de la chaleur, de la vapeur d'eau entraîne la vapeur d'huile essentielle dans le serpentin vers le condenseur-réfrigérateur. Une fois condensées, eau et huile essentielle sont récupérées dans le décanteur. Une chaudière spéciale permet d'utiliser les déchets végétaux comme combustible. Les derniers alambics cessent de fonctionner dans la région en 1985.
Les Etablissements Darbonne, en ont fait don au Conservatoire.
