Ball del Contrapàs or Contrapàs Dance is a stone sculpture of a group of people dancing hand in hand in a spiral. For the lower part the figures are in relief and on the higher part they are 3D figurines.
Born in Barcelona in 1930, Sergi Mas Balaguer is an Andorran sculptor, illustrator, painter, engraver, lithographer and writer.
The plaque reads Catalan:
Aquest monument, obra de l'escultor Sergi Mas, encarregat i finançat per la Comissio del Barri l'any 1977, representa el Ball del Contrapàs d'Andorra la Vella.
El Contrapas, que es balla per la Festa Major, és una dansa que es fa i es desfà seguint les instruccions del capdanser, començant sempre amb el peu esquerre.
Translation:
This monument, by sculptor Sergio Mas, commissioned and funded by the Commission of the Old Quarter in 1977, represents the Contrapàs Dance of Andorra la Vella.
The Contrapàs, which is danced at the Major festival, is a dance that rolled back and forth, following the instructions of the capdanser, always beginning with the left foot.
