It was the Shuswap Indians, an Interior Salish band, that inhabited the area long before the first settlers arrived from Finland in the 1850s.
By 1884 gold was discovered on the Columbia and with in influx of men who moiled for gold and the CPR railway the area was changed forever.
Today Sicamous is a thriving community of approximately 3,500 residents. With its close proximity to Shuswap Lake, Mara Lake and situated along the shores of the Eagle River; Sicamous is an outdoorsman's paradise.
Though the welcome sign states Sicamous: Gateway to the Shuswap which it truly is, however a more accurate slocan is "Sicamous: Houseboating Capital of Canada". There are over 300 watercraft available for rent primarily houseboats.
From fishing to wakeboarding if you want to be on the water this is the place to be.
Sicamous has from take out to fine dinning, with a active nightlife during the summer. Sicamous is a nice friendly town greeting tourists and passersby with a hi and a smile.
