NZ Fauna and Flora Mural, Town Centre, Turangi, North Is., New Zealand - Murals on Waymarking.com

This attractive mural on the end wall of Lockyers store, opposite the Outdoor Stage and playground area of the Turangi Town Mall, paints some favourite images of nature from the Turangi region. It is painted using a modern Maori background design and colours, and depicts a row of native birds with native flora and a row of open-mouthed trout (probably rainbow trout) reaching upwards to a row of feathered trout-fishing flies. Turangi, situated on the banks of the Tongariro River and surrounded by beautiful native forests full of bird-life, is a popular destination for skiers, hikers, trout anglers, cyclists, and 'everything outdoors enthusiasts' and is known as the Trout Fishing Capital of the World.
Mural description: The birds are our native Tui with the familiar white feathered bobble on the throat and the red beaked Kereru ( a large native NZ pigeon). The plants are red flax flowers which the Tuis love to drink nectar from, and the large red berries of the Miro trees that are a favourite food of the NZ pigeons (Kereru). There appears to be an artists symbol in the top corner but it is unclear what it says. But this innovative and eye-catching art work will surely have been painted by local artists or students from the Turangi area.
