The Bridgewater Canal
"The Bridgewater Canal connects Runcorn, Manchester and Leigh, in North West England. It was commissioned by Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, to transport coal from his mines in Worsley to Manchester. It was opened in 1761 from Worsley to Manchester, and later extended from Manchester to Runcorn, and then from Worsley to Leigh.

Often considered to be the first "true" canal in England, as it relied upon existing watercourses as sources of water rather than as navigable routes. Navigable throughout its history, it is one of the few canals in Britain not to have been nationalised, and remains privately owned. Pleasure craft now use the canal which forms part of the Cheshire Ring network of canals." link

At this point the canal is next to the main road that passes through the village of Moore.

The Millennium Bench
The bench was installed by the Moore and Dewsbury WI. Their website has the following information about the Moore and Daresbury WI... "We are part of the largest women’s organisation in Great Britain, and we are non-political and non-sectarian. Our members include women of all ages, backgrounds and interests. Cheshire Federation is the second largest Federation and has WIs in towns and villages throughout Cheshire, Halton, Warrington, Stockport, South Manchester and Wirral. Apart from one full time member of staff and two part time staff in the office, everyone involved with running the Cheshire Federation of WIs (CFWI) is a volunteer. Each local WI meets monthly and has a wide programme of events."
