The Communications Building were students get a Master of Arts in Communication Studies degree was dedicated as the "Dan Rather" Communications building in 1994. It is home to an award-winning student newspaper, 24-hour student radio station, and a student operated community television facility.

The Person:
Dan Rather is a journalist and he anchored the CBS Evening News from 1981-2005. He joined CBS News in 1962. He quickly rose through the ranks, and in 1981 he assumed the position of Anchor and Managing Editor of the CBS Evening News-a post he held for 24 years.
He is an alumni of SHSU where he graduated August 1953.
