The statue is dedicated to Helen Stewart, largely regarded as the "First Lady of Las Vegas". She and her husband Archibald bought the site after the previous owner defaulted on a loan. After Archibald was killed in a gunfight in 1884 Helen continued to operate the ranch.
In 1902 she sold the ranch and water rights to the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad. a new town, Las Vegas, sprung up when the railroad tracks reached the valley.
The statue was completed in 2011 by local artist Benjamin Victor.
The park is open 8 AM to 4:30 PM Tuesday to Saturday, year-round.
