Why - according to a urban legend - the so-called "Metzgerturm", one of the most photographed landmarks in Ulm, is leaning with an inclination of 3.3° to northwest? The leaning tower is located in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Is it because the masons were always drunk?
Is it because of the thick mayor who wanted to climb the outside wall?
Is it because the cutter of Ulm smashed against the tower?
The Legend:
The Legend starts by a riot of the housewives in Ulm. They are not amused because the butchers had reduced the sausages and also doubled the price. The housewives gathered together with sweeping brooms and rolling pins in front of the butcher shops in the city. And so the mayor had called all the butchers of the city together in the so-called "Metzgerturm".
And the head of the city was so angry about the high sausage prices that all butchers out of sheer fear retreated into a corner. So the butchers with their fat bellies involuntarily caused that the tower leaned to the side.
