The Town:

Tenniken is a municipality in the district of Sissach in the canton of Basel-Land with about 900 residents.

Tenniken was first mentioned in a document in 1226. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the rule Diegten, which was owned by Froburg. Then, the lords of Ifenthal, and later Eschenz owned the area. In the 15th century the ownership was unclear, there were clashes between Basel and Solothurn over the supremacy in the area. Since 1482 Tenniken has belonged to Basel, first in the county of Farnsburg, after 1798 in the district of Waldenburg, and since 1832 in the District Sissach.

In addition to the still strong agriculture, Tenniken has also a small industrial and commercial zone.

The Town Hall:

The town hall of Tenniken is located in the village center. The two-storey building is probably a former farmhouse. The entrance to the municipal administration is located in a rectangular doorway that maybe belonged to the barn.

Tenniken ist eine Gemeinde im Bezirk Sissach im Kanton Basel-Landschaft mit etwa 900 Einwohnern.

Tenniken wurde 1226 urkundlich erwähnt. Im Mittelalter gehörte es zur Herrschaft Diegten, die im Besitz von Froburg war. Danach waren die Herren von Ifenthal und später Eschenz im Besitz der Gegend. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurden die Besitzverhältnisse unklar, es kam zu Auseinandersetzungen zwischen Basel und Solothurn und die Vorherrschaft in der Gegend. Seit 1482 gehört Tenniken zu Basel, erst im Amt Farnsburg, 1798 zum Bezirk Waldenburg, und seit 1832 zum Bezirk Sissach.

Neben der immer noch starken Landwirtschaft verfügt Tenniken auch über ein kleines Industrie- und Gewerbegebiet.

Das Gemeindehaus:

Das Gemeindehaus von Tenniken befindet sich im Dorfzentrum. Das zweistöckige Gebäude ist vermutlich ein ehemaliges Bauernhaus. Der Eingang zur Gemeindeverwaltung befindet sich in einer rechteckigen Toreinfahrt, die wohl früher zur Scheune gehörte.
