This location has two significant events. The original Capron mill was built in 1820 and featured the first powered looms for making wool in the US. This company went thru various transformations eventually becoming Bernat Mills, which was the third largest yarn mill in the US. In July of 2007 the modern Bernat Mill burned and was completely destroyed. Miraculously the original Capron Mill built in 1820 which was within a stone throw of the Bernat Mill was spared.
