Yorkton Home Guard
In May 1885 64 men of Yorkton and district organized themselves under the command of Major T. Charles Watson. To protect the community during the Riel Rebellion from a band of Indians living near White Sands River "Fort Watson" a breastwork wa erected East of here on section 13 26-4-W2.
But was later demolished by the local settlers for firewood the outline can still be seen from the air.
Although there was no uprising in this part of the province there was some minor looting at the Orkney Settlement. The Home Guard say only one confrontation which ended by everybody going home and no shots fired in anger.
During the intervening 100 years. Yorkton has been the site of eleven military units both regular and reserve forces and has sent units consisting both men and women to serve in at least five overseas forces,
