Beside the "Claude-Dornier-Schule" is a Dornier Do 27-A1 aircraft on a public and permanent display, located in Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. I didn´t found any reason why the aircraft placed at this location and where it comes from, but there is a strong connection between the name of the school and Claude Dornier, a German airplane builder and founder of Dornier GmbH.
About the aircraft:
The Dornier Do 27 was a German single-engine STOL utility aircraft, manufactured by Dornier GmbH (later DASA Dornier, Fairchild-Dornier). Configuration was a classic high-wing, "tail-dragger" aircraft with fixed landing gear.
The variant DO 27-A1 was a military five-seat single-engine STOL utility transport aircraft and a total number of 177 were built.
As robust high-wing monoplane designed with fixed undercarriage, the Do is 27 particularly suitable for use away off paved roads. After 250 meters, it reached an altitude of 15 meters. From a height of 15 meters, it requires only a distance of 183 meters for a landing.
