Originally built in 1973 to memorialize a 1971 trip that 12 Waco residents made to Paris to press North Vietnamese officials for release of U.S. prisoners of war.

The Freedom Fountain stands as a monument for Freedom for past and present war veterans. The exterior diameter of the Freedom Fountain includes cast concrete panels with the phrase "FREEDOM" in 54 different languages.

The fountain remains in its original location between the Hilton Inn and the Waco Convention Center.
