The biggest zoological garden in Argentina, Buenos Aires Zoo (Jardín Zoologico Buenos Aires), is located in Palermo district of Argentinian capital.

The Buenos Aires Zoo with area 18 ha exhibits 89 species of mammals, 49 species of reptiles and 175 species of birds, with a total of over 2 500 animal specimens. The institution's goals are to conserve species, produce research and to educate the public. The Zoo of Buenos Aires was commissioned in 1874 by President Domingo Faustin Sarmiento and officially opened for public on November 11th, 1875.

The grassy areas of the park are full of native birds and rodents, which come to the zoo for the food thrown to the animals by visitor. Nutria, rabbits, and peacock roam the park freely. A variety of monkeys and small mammals inhabit the zoo. Although some are in cages, others are housed on the islands in the zoo's many ponds, or roam free. In Zoo You can visit Farm Zoo, Tropical rainforest pavillon, Aquarium, Elephant pavillon, Reptile house, Penguin exposition and many others...

The Buenos Aires ZOO is not so big, modern and by species-rich as some US and European Zoos, but still offers a nice program for day in the City.
