I met a fire lieutenant at the door one Saturday morning as I was there to photograph the station for a firehouse waymark. He asked if I wanted a close up look for at the old pumper. Of course, I jumped at the chance to check out this old veteran.
The truck arrived via Atlantic Coastline freight train on a flat car. The firemen all gathered to get a look a the brand spanking new fire truck. It was unloaded and placed in service. Truck 1 served the community for many years. As years took its toll on the truck, it was replaced but not forgotten.
Members of the department took on the project of restoring this gem. Body work, interior work, and new paint and gold leaf brought this old workhorse back to life. This is a fine example of a dedication to preserving the past.
