As the Plaque reads:

Hanson Lake Road

Opened officially in 1965, this 360km road between Smeaton and Creighton, provided and all weather road to link Prince Albert and Flin Flon. Construction began in 1958 as part of a Federal-Provincial road to resources program. This road opened up a vast area for fishing hunting prospecting and mining.

Olaf Hanson, a veteran trapper, prospector and outdoors man from the area, lent his name to the road, he assisted in determining the road's route through this part of the Canadian Shield. His knowledge proved invaluable as the road crossed large areas of muskeg lakes and rivers as well as rock outcroppings.
