1819
"Built as the new Town Hall & Market replacing an earlier 18th century Shire Hall that stood out into Main Street on the site of Clock House (opposite).
1820
Former Shire Hall demolished.
1833
New Town Hall & Market described as ‘a plain modern building…and underneath it….a commodious area for the corn market’.
1847
Alterations made to accommodate the courtroom.
1875
New markets proposed to designs by K W Ladd including plans to raise existing council chamber roof.
1882
Above alterations completed.
1887
Iron plaque with town crest in roundel affixed to front external wall of building.
1911
Flight of external stairs to the left front façade removed.
1993
