William Armour was born in Glasgow,Scotland in 1840, at the time of his demise at the age of 40 he was landlord of the Huddesfield Arms Hotel at Venus Bay. Some reports state he died of tuberculosis and others that he was found dead the morning of a heavy drinking session, there being no close-by cemetery or the means to get to one he was subsequently buried in the sand dunes a few hundred metres southeast of the town
