Héraklés je synem Dia a mykénskou princeznou Alkménin. Podle bájí byl velice krásný, zdedil sílu nevídanou, která sahala až na sílu božstev. Byl to pravý hrdina, beze strachu, proto se stal také vzorem pro mnohé muže, kterí i práli být práve jako onen hrdina. Bohužel manželka Dia a zároven jeho sestra Héra ze žárlivosti uvrhla na Hérakla odporný osud. Zeus prohlásil, že se tento den narodí potomek, který bude nejsilnejším mužem ze všech doposud žijících bytostí. Zeus zplodil Hérakla s mykénskou princeznou. Na to Héra ze své lstivé mysli, která vidí budoucnost vycetla onen osud a mykénskému králi Stheneovi narodil syn dríve než Alkménin. A tak se také stalo. Sthenelova manželka Nikippa porodila syna Eurystheus a dle Diovi prísahy se stal on tím nejsilnejším. Ubohému Heraklovi nezbylo nic jiného než se stát jeho služebníkem. Zeus zuril, ale ani on s tímto proroctvím nemohl nic delat.
O Héraklesovi se povídá, že byl nesmrtelným. Podvodem se totiž napil z prsu Héry. Tím se stal nepremožitelným. Když se to Héra dozvedela, poslala na Hérakla dva hady, ale ten je uškrtil holými ruky.
Každý asi zdá 12 úkolu, které musel Héraklés splnit. Aby ocistil krvavý trest jenž vykonal. Zabil svoje deti i deti Ífiklovy. Vyzbrojen dary od bohu se vydal plnit hruzné úkoly.
