Their post office, however, isn't quite as old, being one of the 60s-70s type of brick structures ubiquitous in the Maritimes. This one is rather nicer than many, though. It was built with a Colonial Style front porch or verandah supported by five fluted white painted columns with small capitals and bases. These were probably an attempt to blend the building in with its surroundings.
When in Barrington, stop in at the
Old Court House, built in 1843, just across the street. Try not to miss the
Old Meeting House, built in 1765 and now a Canadian National Historic Site. It's on the corner, straight south of the post office and has an old cemetery, at least as old as the meeting house. It is the the
oldest nonconformist house of worship in Canada.
