Cleburn Times-ReviewThe school was built on granddad Emmit McFall’s mother’s family place; she was a Martin. The Martins donated the land where the school was built in what was the Lanham Mill community.
After the building was no longer being used in the early 1960s, some of the people wanted to tear it down, but Emmit bought it and moved it to the McFall place, which was about a mile from the original site.
Emmit's son, R.C., gave it to Somervell County, so it would always be taken care of.
The agreement made with Somervell County upon giving them the building was that they would always keep it restored. And periodically through the year they would take the classes of grades one through six and hold class in the building for a day so the kids of future generations would know what it was like for their ancestors going to school in a one-room schoolhouse.
