In March of 1998, the Friends of the Old Town Theatre was organized. After almost four years of planning and renovating, the Town Theatre was dedicated on February 22, 2002 as the J. Philip Gibbs Jr. Centre for the Performing Arts.
Today the theater hosts music performances, dramatic and musical theater, dance, film and community events. It is home to the Huntsville Community Theatre and the Old Town Theatre Film Project.
