The present bridge replaced the original bridge which opened in May 1894 that was built in six weeks out of jarrah and karri After 59 years of weathering and pest damage, a new reinforced concrete bridge was built alongside and the old bridge was demolished

The plaque is inscribed with the words -

'M.R.D.
This bridge was opened
on April 17th 1953 by
Hon J.T.Tonkin M.L.A.
Minster for Works'
Date built or dedicated as indicated on the date stone or plaque.: 17th April 1953

Date stone, plaque location.: Beside the pedestrian walkway at the eastern end
