My husband and I first learned of this cemetery due to a geocache that is located here:
GC406HC Shurley Cemetery (placed in 2012 by paladinds1961)
I felt the cemetery deserves additional recognition so we are placing some waymarks here. The cemetery is fairly well maintained considering it's rural location and the age of the last burials (of the inscriptions that can be read, it appears the first burial was 1871, and the most recent was 1959).
This headstone is obviously homemade. The inscription reads:
"Matilda Ann Reed
born 1/30/1864 in TX
died Ma 19 1871"
Matilda was only 7 years old when she passed away.
(The month spelled "Ma" could be either March or May)
