The garden is mainly paved and furnished with benches and is on the corner of Market Street and Beck Lane.
This extract from the club's web site tells us about the club and the man.
"The Rotary Club of Heckmondwike & District was formed in 1931 by members of Dewsbury Rotary Club who were businessmen in the Heckmondwike area. The founding president was Dempster H. Lister, a local baker, who did a lot of community work in Heckmondwike. In his time he was a special constable, founded the Heckmondwike Players amateur dramatic society, was the chairman of Heckmondwike Urban District Council for many years, was a Justice of the Peace, organised charabanc trips to the coast for under-priviledged children and ran a successful business. I don't know how he found the time! His son, Rhodes, was a member of the club for many years and his grand-son, Michael, is a current member so keeping up the tradition of service to the community.
He died in 1952 and in 1959 the club created a small park in the town in his memory. The Dempster H. Lister Memorial Park is located on the corner of Market Street and Beck Lane. It has recently been improved by major renovation work by Kirklees Council."
