In Bath, on the grounds of the Maine Maritime Museum, is the William T. Donnell house, at one time the house of the owner of the shipyard at this location.

The house is located at 279 Washington Street, south of US Route 1 and south of the Bath Iron Works. It is close to the street.

It is a wooden structure painted two shades of brown and red trimming. There is a porch on the front and wraps to the north side of the house.

The Maine Maritime Museum opens the house for tours. The museum fee includes access to the house. Tours are of the first floor. The guide took us to each room and talked not only about the furnishings, but also the family as well.

A sign nearby has the following about the house.

"William T. Donnell married Henry P. Hitchock's daughter Clara in 1860 and bought this house and shipyard from Clara's mother in 1869. The proximity of residence to workplace was unusual. From this house, W. T. Donnell overlooked his shipyard, operating as Deering & Donnell from 1866 to 1886 and as William T. Donnell Shipyard from 1886 until 1901.

In the 1880s the Donnells renovated the Italianeate house inside and out to later Victorian tastes. In 1892, after Clara's death, William raised the roof and added the ell on the river side."

The web site states that the house is open 11 am to 4 pm, Monday through Saturday, from Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day.
